Brick Yard, owned and managed by Ethical Property and located in Shoreditch, is home to many organisations including Saferworld – an independent international organisation working to prevent violence and conflict. For 30 years, it has worked with people affected by conflict to improve their safety and provide a sense of security. It aims to influence local, national and international policies and practices to help build lasting peace.
Working across Asia, Africa and the Middle East, it currently employs 150 people across policy, advocacy and support teams.
Fatma Abdi, HR & Operations Administrator at Saferworld, explains why they chose to be based at Brick Yard:
“We love being part of the Brick Yard community. Working alongside likeminded organisations is what attracted us to the workspace – there are other not-for-profits, social enterprises and charities who all share our values– to change people’s lives for the better. There is opportunity to collaborate with other organisations too and that is something we’re exploring at the moment. It’s easy to get into conversations at Brick Yard, my colleagues and I often chat to other tenants in the kitchen and communal areas.”
Brick Yard was refurbished in 2021. Positively influencing tenants’ wellbeing and incorporating elements that have improve mental health, such as light, bright interiors and greenery, were key to the redesign. For example, the lighting replicates daylight and all the power used in the building is from renewable sources – and that’s the same across all Ethical Property centres.
Brick Yard provides accessible workspace for up to 15 progressive organisations with a shared commitment to effecting positive change. Ethical Property believes in doing good too, and that means offering flexible contracts, fantastic facilities, and fair prices.
Fatma continues:
“The onsite staff are so supportive and have responded promptly whenever we’ve had a query. As an international organisation, we work with a number of partners and host a lot of face-to-face meetings. Since Brick Yard has been refurbished, we love welcoming visitors - it’s bright and there is a really positive atmosphere around the place. We feel like we’re being treated fairly too, the contracts are flexible and transparent.”
Brick Yard offers 24.7 access, onsite management, free-to-use meeting rooms for 2 to 30 people, high-quality video conferencing facilities and a fob enabled secure entrance. There are also breakout areas, inclusive shared kitchens and dining hubs and other communal facilities.
