Our centre in Cardiff, Hastings House, is a vibrant hub close to the centre of Cardiff with easy access to governmental, educational and cultural organisations. We asked Gareth, who runs the centre about what makes is so special.
What for you sums up Hastings House?
The interaction between tenants and the diverse types of organisations that have offices within the building, they always find similarities in what they do.
What organisations call Hastings House home?
A huge mixture, including Local Democratic Boundary Commission for Wales, The Big Issue, PAPYRUS, Wales Council of the Blind, Fire Brigades Union, People Plus, CYTUN, Displaced People in Action and The Terrence Higgins Trust.
It’s been a tough year, but people have shown resilience, do you have any example of this at Hastings House?
We have tenants that provide support and training and they have continued their work throughout - where possible via online meetings. Throughout this all of our tenants have managed to still provide services to their users.
What makes Cardiff unique?
Although Cardiff is a large city and the capital of Wales, there is still a community feel around the city. The development of the city over the last several years has produced not just affluent areas, such as the Cardiff Bay development, but also a lot of social housing has been built. The population is more diverse in Cardiff then in any other part of Wales.
What would surprise people about Hastings House and/or Cardiff?
Our location, we’re really close to the city centre and excellent public travel services are at our doorstep (including the train links to the rest of the UK). We’ve got space to suit most organisations from 20sqm to over 300sqm. Plus, the energy saving equipment that is supplied as standard which include LED lighting and PIR lighting as well as solar panels that produce a high output of cheaper energy.
